South Korean steel pipe exports record new low in Sep- The 20th China (Guangzhou ) Int’l tube & pipe Processing Equipment Exhibition

The export volume of South Korean steel pipe in September totaled around 93,400 tons, which was 65.5% year-on-year decreased. The quota was 2.68 million tons, which was 70% of average annual South Korean steel exports to the US from 2015 to 2017, and 1.04 million tons was the quota for pipe exports from South Korea. The most of pipe manufactures still felt the impact under trade restrictions.
Actually, the pipe sold to the US in September totaled only 9,600 tons, especially a big decline on line pipe by 90% year on year and oil country tubular goods (OCTG) down by 97% year on year.
Fortunately, the US President Donald J. Trump signed a proclamation allowing relief from quotas imposed under Section 232 on steel from South Korea, Argentina, and Brazil in August. It could be further an opportunity for South Korean pipe markers to enhance pipe exports to the US.
