Chinese electric vehicles market was growing a lot. As a result, it pushed the demand for nickel ore in the Philippines’ largest export market for the mineral. The US and China continued to have the global trader war, so there was still some possibility for slower demand in the future.
In addition, the local miners were facing several challenges, including uncertainties related to stricter enforcement of environment regulations and the ongoing revision of the tax on mining. Currently, China was producing most efficiently stainless steel products.
The Philippines'' miners believed that the trade war between the US and China will be over one day and 2019 could be a better year for stainless steel market than 2018. They were hoping the tax could be simpler and the environment regulations could be more workable for miners.
