China aims to optimize steel capacity structure in 2019-The 20th China(Guangzhou) Die-casting, Foundry & Industry Furnace Exhibition

The executive of China Iron and Steel Association said on January 14th that Chinese steel industry will pay attention on optimizing capacity structure, such as products, location and ownership this year. China will request more “high-quality development” according to its reform.
China has cut about 300 million tons of outdated steel production capacity and low-grade steel capacity since 2016. However, it was believed around 910 million tons of such kind of steel were still remained.
The chairperson of China Iron and Steel Association said the major movement in 2019 will be optimizing production structure, adjusting layout of steel factories and persuading merger and acquisition.
It was also expected the steel consumption this year will drop to 800 million tons from 820 million tons in 2018 due to weaker demand from the property, automobile and energy sectors. According to the statistics, Chinese total steel exports dropped to 69.5 million tons roughly last year, which was the lowest level since 2013.
